Help us literally write history! Region of Waterloo Museums, Region of Waterloo Archives, and Region of Waterloo Library are looking for the public’s help in recording accounts of everyday life during the COVID-19 pandemic for future generations.
We are looking for the experiences of Waterloo Region residents from a variety of age groups during the length of the pandemic. Some of the experiences we are hoping to document include:
- Ways COVID-19 has affected you at work/school/home/other
- How local businesses are adapting or closing during the pandemic
- Struggles of family members infected with the virus
- Stories of everyday heroes, i.e. people helping neighbours during self-isolation, essential workers
- Creative ways milestones (birthdays, anniversaries, holidays) have been celebrated
- When you think the pandemic will end, and how our community will be changed
- Any positive outcomes you have experienced during the pandemic
Share your written accounts (.doc or .pdf), photographs (.jpg), or video recordings (mp3, mp4, wav, or mov) by emailing them to helpusmakehistory@regionofwaterloo.ca with the subject line “Writing COVID-19 History”. Please include your name, age, and your city/town of residence. Staff will be in touch for more information after you email. Your submissions may be shared via social media, on our website, and/or in future exhibitions with your permission. You can also visit Engage Region of Waterloo to share information and take a survey.
McDougall Cottage Historic Site has launched a new project called The View From Here: An Artist's Perspective on COVID 19 where artists can submit photos of their works of art.
