A reimagined Doon will provide expanded and more accessible stories.

In 2023, Doon Heritage Village temporarily closed for infrastructure repairs that were needed to strengthen the historic infrastructure for generations to come. Water mains, electricity lines, and telephone/fibre cables have been replaced at the Village from 2023 through 2025. Additional capital improvements are also underway.

The historic buildings will remain closed to the public through 2025.

While the Village has been closed, staff and volunteers have been busy on equity-focused community consultation throughout 2024 and 2025. Community conversations revealed the strengths of the Doon experience, as well as gaps, such as a lack of diverse stories and representation, missing natural/environmental stories and low awareness of offerings. A reimagined Doon will not rewrite history but instead enhance our existing stories with other perspectives and new knowledge we are learning through consultation. These insights and opportunities are informing the new interpretive plan, education and public programs, and special events, which will be piloted as possible in 2025, and re-launched in full in Spring 2026.

Follow our social media or Engage Page for updates on engagement opportunities and how to be part of our piloted experiences.

Through 2025, areas of the Village will be utilized for school programs and special events. We look forward to welcoming everyone back in spring 2026!
