FRIENDS of Waterloo Region Museum Silent Quilt Auction
The FRIENDS of Waterloo Region Museum are holding a silent auction for a beautiful, hand quilted Mennonite quilt, crafted in the Waterloo Region by two very creative women. Quilts of the calibre made by these talented ladies are highly prized locally, nationally and even internationally. They have generously partnered with the FRIENDS for many years to raise funds for the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village. This is the third year that the annual quilt has been offered by silent auction, and all proceeds will go to the FRIENDS to support the programs and events.
This “Solar Flare” quilt is a queen sized, measuring 107" x 107", made from 100% cotton fabric and duplicates the colours and movement of the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights). One of the ladies, will cut and piece the fabric together and the other will mark the quilting design and then hand quilt on a frame, the appropriate design which coordinates with the pattern. The project is started in the Fall when the fabric is selected and completed by the following Spring.
Quilts of this kind are valued at well over $1000 and the starting bid is $700 and bids should be in increments of $25.
The silent auction will close on December 16th at 4 p.m. and will be awarded based on the highest bid received at that time. Due to the high volume, current bid may not be in real time. In the event that bids with matching values are received, the first bid received with that value will be the successful bid.
Please send your bids to waterlooregionmuseum@regionofwaterloo.ca and include your name, phone number, email address, and your bid amount!
