Region of Waterloo Museums offer some of the most picturesque, historically significant venues in the city. Our beautiful and iconic venues are ideal for any event special. From meetings to wedding receptions and corporate galas, we provide an extraordinary event experience.

We have many unique spaces that are available for community events. Contact us to discuss your needs, availability and pricing. Outdoor facilities are also available to accommodate larger groups. If you're looking to host a special event, we can accommodate and will offer an engaging space for your group or event.

Region of Waterloo Museums have preferred caterers who can meet your every need, from a boxed lunch, to a casual reception with bar service, to a barbecue, or a gourmet plated dinner.

Our venues offer lots of parking and best of all, it's always free.  Some venues also offer complimentary WiFi.

Rental Venues

Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village

The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum and Doon Heritage Village have many unique spaces available for rental.

 

Christie Theatre 
Christie TheatreA 114-seat theatre adjacent to the beautiful Grand Foyer of the Waterloo Region Museum. The Christie Digital Theatre is ideal for special events that could include film festivals, lectures, and concerts.  
Freeport Church 
Freeport ChurchThe Freeport Church is available for weddings, holy unions, and commitment ceremonies. Capacity of the Freeport Church is 100 people. The historic church features an antique pump organ, operating church bell, and historic oil lamps. 
Meeting Room - Classroom A 
Classroom AThe Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum features two versatile meeting rooms that are ideal for business or community meetings. The largest of the meeting rooms can accommodate up to 100 people depending on room set-up. Both classrooms feature retractable whiteboard walls that open to create bigger rooms when classrooms are used together. 
Meeting Room - Classroom B 
Classroom BThe museum also features a smaller room called Classroom B that is ideal for smaller groups of up to 20 people depending on room setup. Both classrooms feature windows that looks into the picturesque setting of Doon Heritage Village. 
Museum Building Grand Foyer 
Grand FoyerThe Grand Foyer is a magnificent space with seating for up to 300 theatre style, or up to 150 for a seated dinner. The Grand Foyer features soaring walls of Ontario limestone and re-purposed barn timbers from a 19th century Waterloo Region barn that create an amazing and unique ambience for any special event. 

 

Schneider Haus National Historic Site 

Schneider HausSchneider Haus room rentals are ideal for small meetings and gatherings. To make a booking and for more information call 519-742-7752.

Available from February to December, Schneider Haus offers an engaging space in a historical setting within downtown Kitchener. Our room rentals can accommodate up to 40 people, dependent upon the set-up. The room features a screen and complimentary Wi-Fi access. Our room rentals are charged at an hourly rate.

Room rentals during regular business hours offers attendees access to our galleries and historic house, providing a unique cultural experience for your guests.  

After hour rentals are subject to a three hour minimum charge. For rentals after hours, attendees view the galleries only. The Schneider Haus can be viewed seasonally during that time for an additional fee. Room rentals will include a security staff member to be present at the event when the museum is closed.

All food and beverage requirements must be provided by one of the museum’s exclusive caterers.  Please ask for a list of our current caterers if your meeting requires these services.

Renting rooms in the facility for a private function does not secure exclusive use of the facility; only the space rented. Activities shall not interfere with normal public operation of the museum and must be consistent with the museum's mission as an educational and cultural institution. Museum exhibitions, collections, and furnishings may not be altered or removed. Schneider Haus reserves the right to waive or modify the stated guidelines.

 
McDougall Cottage Historic Site

Full Cottage Rental

May to October

Full day (up to 8 hours)
Available Monday and Tuesday only.
Includes use of the entire Cottage plus the grounds, use of the tables and chairs and a resource staff member.

Half day (up to 4 hours)
Available Monday, Tuesday and evenings Wednesday to Sunday (after 5 p.m.).
Includes use of the entire Cottage plus the grounds, use of the tables and chairs and a resource staff member). 

 

November to April

Full day (up to 8 hours)
From mid-December - the first Thursday in March the Cottage is available daily.
From the first Thursday in March to mid-December the Cottage is available Monday and Tuesday only.
Includes use of the entire Cottage, use of the tables and chairs and a resource staff member or security staff.  

Half day (up to 4 hours)
Available Monday, Tuesday and evenings Wednesday to Sunday.
Includes use of the entire Cottage, use of the tables and chairs and a resource staff member or security staff. 

 

Back Porch Rental

Available seasonally, Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 5 p.m. (for groups of up to 16 people).
Includes use of the back porch and the washroom only.

 

Special Event Photography

May to October
Available Wednesday to Sunday from noon to 5 p.m.

Due to the large number of requests that we receive from people who would like to take engagement and wedding photographs at our sites - each with their own unique requirements - we limit access for this type of photography to those people who have chosen to have their marriage and/or reception here.
