Giving Voice: Vocal Ensembles in Waterloo Region

Inspired by the 100th anniversary of the Grand Philharmonic Choir, Giving Voice celebrates the heritage of local vocal ensembles, their diversity, the communities they inspire, and the power of music across generations.

“I love to hear a choir. I love the humanity of seeing real people devoting themselves to a piece of music. I like the teamwork. It makes me feel optimistic about the human race when I see them cooperating like that.” - Sir Paul McCartney, singer-songwriter

Creating music together inspires us, organizes us, connects us across generations and cultures – it’s a fundamental part of being human. One of the most accessible and personal expressions of music is to sing.

Whatever the skill level or musical genre, singing with others can improve your mood, reduce stress, and exercise your brain and body.  There is beauty and joy in the music itself, and a powerful sense of belonging when we harmonize together.

For people in Waterloo Region, ensemble singing is also a way to connect with our remarkable creative heritage.

We invite you to come and experience Giving Voice: Vocal Ensembles in Waterloo Region on exhibit at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum from February 25, 2023 to January 27, 2024.
